MELROSEandFAIRFAX on Forbes

Street art is really blowing up, and MELROSEandFAIRFAX just got interviewed by Forbes magazine. The Forbes magazine.

The article wasn't about us. We just added some minor commentary to a piece about 2wenty's Facebook Cigarettes, and their role as "quick hit commentary on our increasing dependence and social media".

It is a very well written article by Kashmir Hill, and well worth a read for not only its relevance to street art, but for addressing some concerns related to social media.

Even though 2wenty is new to street art, he has earned all of this attention that he has gotten. The piece is not necessarily a beautiful piece of art, but it is a brilliant social commentary and it has really struck a nerve in this social media addicted world. And the fame and instant success that 2wenty has got is just another example of the direct impact and feedback one receives from putting art on the streets. As 2wenty has said, "I never said I was good. I just wanted to play." But the irony is rich, because if he weren't this good, things wouldn't have played out so well~

It is a huge honor contributing to Forbes, and this unlikely pairing just goes to show how broad the reach of street art is.

Thanks to Kashmir for the interview, and big ups to 2wenty for his having such a socially significant piece that is receiving strong reactions, both in the community and even in the main stream media.

Big congrats. Stay up~

"Hey, Man! Got A Cigarette?"

These guys ran up on us in front of 2wenty's Facebook Cigarettes piece and asked for a cigarette. Sorry bro, we don't smoke-those . . .

Also up with art from Common Cents and ?

On La Brea.

Ripping Down Signs To Get Street Art

This is the sign we posted earlier this week with street art from Blinky put on it. It looks like someone ripped down the sign to try and get the art. Click the jump for more

This is speculation, but the sign was riding only a few days ago. We are guessing that someone broke down the sign to try and take it, but since the sign is so big (it wouldn't fit in most cars, or even on the roof of most vehicles), it looks like they gave up on that idea, and then tried scraping the Blinky heads off.

It was left here to die, and then got tagged over a few times.

Also, new tag from Berbo on the wall. Joining 2wenty, Facebook, Charlie Sheen, Tiger Blood, Common Cents, Swift, BC, Dint Wooer, Koffinz, Killed, Felix, Bankrupt Slut. And notice how many advertisements are popping up as well.

Blinky Supreme

Blinky goes big in front of a slammed art wall on Melrose. Click the jump for more

Two of the three Blinky's still remain, but it looks like one has been ripped out of the center.

Up in front of a panelled wall with Supreme Lady Gaga posters. Also up with street art from Axis, Swift, Common Cents, 2wenty, and many more.

Huge Street Art Combo (pt 2/2)

Part 2 of the huge street art combo building on Melrose. These shots go 'Supreme' style and have some cool pics of abstract 3d art. Click the jump for more.

Supreme gets tiled up with these Lady Gaga posters. These are a hot item on Ebay, and currently fetch $60+ apiece. Which is probably why nearly every one has been attempted to be ripped down.

And a very cool abstract kite piece of street art, with a string tied between the two pieces. The string is not painted on, it is actually a pice of string affixed to the wall. Very cool. Unknown artist.

Also up with 2wenty's Facebook cigarettes, Charlie Sheen's Tiger Blood, and Cyrcle.

Hooked Up - Street Art From 2wenty

2wenty hooked us up with a special, limited edition Lindsey Lohan wood panel. This one features Lilo wearing the infamous necklace that she is accused of stealing. Click the jump for more

The back of the Lindsey Lohan piece is a modified ad for the jewelry store that is reporting the item stolen.

2wenty also hooked us up with a custom made Facebook Cigarette themed box. Peep the warning in the pic. Facebook should be required to issue this before people sign up.

Mark Zuckerberg Has a Posse

Obey. Click the jump for more

Some new stickers have popped up that are yet another version of Obey's 'Andre The Giant Has a Posse'.

These ones say 'Mark Zuckerberg Has a Posse' with '6.9 billion' in the bank and '500,000,000 friends'.

Interesting how the Obey at the bottom has been changed to blue and the same font as Facebook.

We don't know who these are by or what the motivation is, but we find it interesting.

Melrose is A 'Mecca' for Street Art

The action on MELROSEandFAIRFAX has been blowing up the past couple weeks. Not just with Banksy, but Melrose got plenty of action of its own with free art scavenger Hunts, new art going up nightly, and the ever escalating attempts to take a piece home.

A lot of folks have really enjoyed the fun during these past few weeks, and Melrose is getting some recognition as folks are calling it, a 'Mecca' for Street Art in Los Angeles. Click the jump for more

Melrose has long been the home of street art in Los Angeles, but the hype surrounding it has been notched up to a whole new level. It is great to hear the area getting more recognition.

The good people over at Mondette got caught up with the 'street art fever' and even found the elusive 4th piece of Facebook themed street art from 2wenty. Its a fun read and the website has all the latest on fashion and dining in the area, and you can check it out HERE

Free Street Art from 2wenty - Because You Crave It!

Today is a good day to be on Melrose. All kinds of free art goodies have been left around for street art lovers to take home.

In addition to the Dunny from Bankrupt Slut, 2wenty has left four pieces of Facebook themed street art on Melrose for people to find and take home. Click the jump for more information and location details.

These free pieces Twenty's street art made up of mixed media. The should withstand the rain, but the sooner they find a new home, the better.

2wenty told us there are 4 new pieces on the street. We could only find 3 when we shot pics, so either we didn't see it or one got taken already, but the other 3 were still out there.

The locations of the spots are pictured below. All are on Melrose (or 15 feet off Melrose like the one on the red brick wall), on the North side of the street, between Curson and Fairfax.

Happy Hunting!

***UPDATE: The 3 Facebook pieces have been found! Pics to come!

Free Street Art (Take It Home!)

^Free street art from 2wenty, lying on the ground underneath Dog Byte's gas masked 'Singin in the Rain'.

With all the talk of Banksy's pieces getting covered up and the pure yearning to own a piece of street art, the good news is that some artists, like LA's 2wenty, like to give their art away on the streets.

Over the past few weeks, 2wenty has done 3 street art giveaways, with numbered, limited edition pieces each time. The cool thing is that he places the art up high where only street art aficionados will find, and get it. It requires a bit of work, but is loads easier than breaking off a wall to get a Banksy!

Usually, we would post the locations of the free street art on the blog for followers to find. But when we found this stencil girl lying on the ground, we decided to take it home for keeps.

2wenty tells us that he is gearing up for another Free Art Scavenger Hunt, so keep your eyes peeled on MELROSEandFAIRFAX for location details.

And to follow 2wenty's earlier art giveaways, click the links below, or search the blog for more.

Free Street Art from 2wenty - Found!

Its been a really cool thing with 2wenty putting up free pieces of street art for people to find. We have been getting a lot of positive feedback on this.

We got an exciting email from MELROSEandFAIRFAX reader 'Nick' who saw the location of the piece on the blog. He went out and tracked down the piece, and is now the lucky owner of one of these free pieces of street art.

Apparently, it was more than just the Facebook Cigarettes piece. Click the jump for more

The free piece of street art also seems to come with a pack of cigarettes and some sort of keychain tool?

Congrats on Nick for the score!

And very cool thing to do from 2wenty. Look forward to what he does next.

More Free Street Art from 2wenty - 1/3

Facebook - Social Cigarettes

Not sure what statement this is making.

We have dug what we have seen from 2wenty.

Eh.
