Free Street Art Scavenger Hunt - Its Radioactive

2wenty is drumming up excitement for 'Above the Radar' tonight by placing free art in the streets, as part of a new scavenger hunt.

These new pieces are timely, and even thought the government says there is enough radiation in the air right now its as if everyone were getting an xray, would they really tell us if the levels were truly dangerous?

2wenty calls attention to this situation with these new 'Fallout Shelter' themed pieces. These are modled after the signs in NY directing people to fallout shelters in case of a nuclear bomb.

We don't have specific location information besides the shot pictured (which is at Golden Apple on Melrose!)- but there are 11 pieces scattered along Melrose and La Brea. Happy hunting!

And, the 'Golden Girl' stencil from Dog Byte shown in this picture has been fixed with a new head, after the original had been tagged up a few weeks back.

The Banksy Hunter Makes A Find!

Keith Toll, who earned the title of Banksy Hunter during Banksy's last trip to LA, hunted down some hand made stickers during our trek down Melrose.

Keith did some mighty fine hunting when he came up on these stickers from Serf TCF in the parking lot of De La Barracuda.

The stickers are hand stenciled and unpeeled.

Cats and Fish Bones

Qtip perched atop this box with a bunch of free fish bone stencils.

These free pieces are clearly free, but they don't seem to be as popular as some of the other giveaways, and sometimes even remain for days.

Not sure why these aren't as big of a grab? Maybe its because they aren't from a big name artist (as far as we know!), or maybe its just the size. But we think these are really cool, and the stencil is simple yet pleasing.

For those who want one, this box is located on Melrose and Spaulding.

Hooked Up - Street Art From 2wenty "Thanks For Making Me Famous"

2wenty hooked us up with with this new Charlie Sheen wood piece that says, 'I'm on a drug. Its called Charlie Sheen'.

And its really special what 2wenty wrote on the back. It says 'To Greg, Thanks for making me famous.' Very cool of 2wenty to do this. We really appreciate it.

But really, 2wenty has earned the status on his own right, thanks to things like this hugely popular Facebook Cigarettes icon. He also hooked us up with a stack of these stickers.

This free street art scavenger hunt features the new Charlie Sheen stencil piece and a brand new hand made pack of Facebook Cigarettes (these are pretty exclusive- the only people to have these new ones in the world are Shepard Fairey and Shark Toof).

You can find the new stuff hiding at the dirt lot on melrose. There's also stickers laid out again and 1 sheen stencil. 1 sheen stencil where the dog byte got taken. At the back of typhoon. And on a box across from joyrich.

Free Street Art - Facebook Stickers from 2wenty

2wenty is doing another street art giveaway, this time leaving a stash of stickers for street art fans. These just got left at 3 o'clock so its now and its fresh! Click the jump below for more info and location details

People seem to really like this Facebook Cigarettes image from 2wenty. He just got the first stickers made with the image, and to celebrate he left a few stacks of them around his pieces of art work.

Free Street Art - Found!

The free street art we posted this morning has been found by MELROSEandFAIRFAX reader 'Luckypig' who sent us some cool pics of the piece looking right at home next to his tattoo--and he also somehow scored a Blinky last night. Click the jump for more

The tattoo next to the painting looks so nice, its like it was meant to be.

We are not sure how he got the Blinky. But he said it was 'crazy' experience, and he plans to have it framed in the next few days.

This is a free piece of street art that is a canvas.

Don't know anything about the history of the piece, who the artist? or how it ended up at this spot?

We found it laying face down in the alleyway behind Gallery 1988 on the corner of La Brea and Melrose, which is where we left it, and where it still (as of 8:30 this morning) is waiting for someone to find it!

The colorway does look very similar to the bright splash of color pieces that Armo has been putting out so it might be him?

Two new Free Street Art Scavenger Hunts! From Melrose all the way to Santa Monica. Click the jump for more

2wenty and Nvision are each doing a cool street art giveaway.

2wenty has put more Lindsey Lohan pieces along Melrose (and we've heard one has already been found!). Not sure how many or the exact locations, but they are out there.

Also, this panel pictured is from 2wenty's last Street Art Scavenger Hunt and it is high up on Melrose, just off Spaulding. It was so high that no one nabbed it yet.

Btw-2wenty has mentioned that people have been stealing his street pieces off the streets, in addition to the scavenger hunt pieces. He says that if it is on a wood panel, it is a free piece of art, but if it is a wheat pasted poster, it is meant for the streets.

And Nvision has put together an art package that includes an original piece, stickers, and more goodies. The package is placed in a protective sleeve, and can be found all the way in Santa Monica in the parking lot of the Corey Helford Gallery.

Late Night Scavenger Hunt - Zombie

People are loving the free street art giveaways, and Zombie just got in on the action with a night time scavenger hunt. Click the jump for more info and location details

Zombie has put out 4 pieces total, 2 of them at the Sonora Cafe building on La Brea and 2nd(?), and 2 more at De La Barracuda. You should be able to figure out the exact spots of each from the pics.

He has taped them up so that they can be removed and taken home.

Also, 2wenty gave us word late today that he had put up another free piece of street art on Melrose. We don't have any pics, but we'd love to hear from whoever found it (think its gone already).

Found Street Art - Bankrupt Slut Still Hangin' With Banksy

The other day, Bankrupt Slut placed a few free custom street art dunnys near the Banksy pieces for folks to find and take home. Well, this one got found on Melrose, but he still made his way to hang out with Banksy.

In an interesting side not, this dunny was actually found twice. Also, we discovered why we didn't find any magnets from Morley when we looked. As it turns out, you don't find them as much as they find you. There is a cool video about it. Click the jump for the full scoop on both Morley and Bankrupt Slut being found.

The Bankrupt Slut dunny was actually first found by Banksy Hunter Keith Toll. Keith has been voracious in his searching for art all over the city. Since he already chased down a green one, he put this dunny back so that someone else could enjoy the thrill.

It was again found by MELROSEandFAIRFAX viewer Kenny. And Kenny sent us these cool pictures of the Bankrupt Slut dunny groovin, and hanging around Banksy.

As for Morley's free magnet art giveaway, the reason we didn't see any is that Morley placed the magnets on cars, not the streets. He made a cool video describing it. Check it out, and check your car, cause you might have got a free piece of street art from Morley after all, and not even known it!

Free Street Art Scavenger Hunt- Bankrupt Slut with Banksy

These scavenger hunts have been a lot of fun, and today Bankrupt Slut dropped off 2 pieces of free street art, one at each of the remaining two Banksy pieces in LA.

These are well hidden. It was purposefully done by Bankrupt Slut so that only the followers of MELROSEandFAIRFAX would find them.

One of these is a rare 'pink' chase figures and it comes with a special prize pack. Click the jump for more info and location details

Out of the 7 dunny's that will be going up as free art around town, only two of those are pink. And Bankrupt Slut put a special prize, a sticker pack, for whoever finds the pink dunny.

The pink dunny is located by Banksy's English Bulldog piece, and another green dunny can be found by by the Crayon Soldier.

The green dunny by Banksy's Crayon Soldier is around the corner from Banksy, and down the alley way. It is tucked in the corner behind the orange cone and barricade (you can see a little poke of green popping up!)

Free Street Art Found (By Famous Movie Producers!)

Today was an exciting day for free street art in LA with both Bankrupt Slut and 2wenty placing art in the streets for people to find and take home.

Well, those pieces got found, two by famous movie producers, and a third by a street art enthusiast who nabbed both the Bankrupt Slut dunny and a 2wenty Facebook piece. Click the jump for more pics and info

Its a small world full of wonder and chance meetings. And these scavengers hunts led to one such story.

Award winning movie producer Craig Brewer has won a Sundance Audience Award (the award given to the top film at the festival) and Academy Award for best song for his movie Hustle & Flow. Craig is currently producing a modern remake of Footloose. And he has taken a huge interest in street art.

Craig had another friend, Memphis based filmaker Morgon Jon Fox, visiting from out of town and they had spent the last few days following the coverage on MELROSEandFAIRFAX and chasing Banksy's pieces around LA. While hanging out in front of Banksy's Charlie Brown they met a guy named Keith Toll, and told him about this blog.

Well, fast forward to a few days later, today, and about two hours after we had posted the location of the Bankrupt Slut dunny, Keith emailed us and told us that he had found it. We congratulated him and he sent a few pics.

Keith returned to his home in Ventura, 40 miles away from Melrose and Fairfax. But then when we posted 2wenty's street art search, Keith jumped back in his car and headed over to this area. Meanwhile, Craig and Morgan had just found 2 of the free pieces of art from 2wenty. And all three of these guys, Keith, Craig and Morgan came together, and by random chance their world's collided again and they all met up at the third, which Keith is taking home. So Craig, Morgan and Keith all scored a cool piece of free street art today, and Keith hit a double bonus by also snagging the piece from Bankrupt Slut.

We are honored and thrilled to have such big names following the blog, and even more impressed with the enthusiasm of these guys to chase down these pieces. Street art is blowing up and only getting bigger! There are going to be more street art giveaways (with another dunny coming tomorrow from Bankrupt Slut!), and it seems people better move quick if they want to snag one!

And, folks might choose to believe us or not but we really didn't know Keith and there is no hooking up or favoritism. This dude just really has an incredible passion for street art, and spent the rest of the day he wasn't chasing dunnys and art tracking down the JR locations. We think it is awesome to see folks so hyped like Keith, and it is so great that all these pieces found a great new home with these famous and dedicated lovers of street art.

Free Street Art from 2wenty - Because You Crave It!

Today is a good day to be on Melrose. All kinds of free art goodies have been left around for street art lovers to take home.

In addition to the Dunny from Bankrupt Slut, 2wenty has left four pieces of Facebook themed street art on Melrose for people to find and take home. Click the jump for more information and location details.

These free pieces Twenty's street art made up of mixed media. The should withstand the rain, but the sooner they find a new home, the better.

2wenty told us there are 4 new pieces on the street. We could only find 3 when we shot pics, so either we didn't see it or one got taken already, but the other 3 were still out there.

The locations of the spots are pictured below. All are on Melrose (or 15 feet off Melrose like the one on the red brick wall), on the North side of the street, between Curson and Fairfax.

Bankrupt Slut Dunny - Found!

Bankrupt Slut has been doing a cool thing with a free street art giveaway of 7 customized Kidrobot Dunnys.

MELROSEandFAIRFAX supporter 'Mike' followed the location details posted on the blog, and took home this piece of free street art, dunny #2.

He sent us some pics of the Bankrupt Slut dunny getting slutty all over the house. The dunny is now hanging with Skullphone, playing darts, and still following MELROSEandFAIRFAX. Very cool. Click the jump below for more

Clearly inspired by the success of 2wenty's free art giveaways, Bankrupt Slut has decided to do something similar, putting free customized Kidrobot Dunny's on the streets to be taken home by street art fans.

Bankrupt Slut says there are 7 dunny's to go up on the streets. MELROSEandFAIRFAX will post the spots, so keep your eyes peeled of where to look.

The first one was placed next to Banksy's Charlie Brown on Sunset. It is all the way on top of the plywood above Banksy's piece.

Free Street Art (Take It Home!)

With all the talk of Banksy's pieces getting covered up and the pure yearning to own a piece of street art, the good news is that some artists, like LA's 2wenty, like to give their art away on the streets.

Over the past few weeks, 2wenty has done 3 street art giveaways, with numbered, limited edition pieces each time. The cool thing is that he places the art up high where only street art aficionados will find, and get it. It requires a bit of work, but is loads easier than breaking off a wall to get a Banksy!



Usually, we would post the locations of the free street art on the blog for followers to find. But when we found this stencil girl lying on the ground, we decided to take it home for keeps.
