Banksy at MOCA - Best in Show

Banksy goes back to his pissing dog theme for MOCA. This time he brings in a real taxidermied dog, and staged it with its leg lifted as if pissing up onto the wall. Banksy then placed a big frame around it with a ribbon dubbing it 'Best in Show'.

Banksy wants to make clear that no dogs were hurt in the making of this piece, and the dog that was used had sat unclaimed for seven years. The paper next to the exhibit says the dog was "absolutely not killed by Banksy for the purposes of this exhibition."

And if the game of graffiti and street art is, at its most basic, a pissing contest, well, Banksy wins 'Best In Show'.

Qtip the Cat at Banksy

Qtip is also caught up in this Banksy craze, and so we took her to visit the Banksy pieces and do a photo shoot.

Banksy's English Bulldog is kind of like the Mona Lisa in that no matter where you stand, it always seems to be looking at you.

Click the jump for more exclusive pics and the only place to see a cool cat with Banksy~

Its not the greatest shot, per say, but it captures the dog's personality. We would bet money that the bulldog used for the stencil is Banksy's pet, or a friends.

We especially like the shot with the reflection in the water.

If you like Qtip and her crazy adventures on a leash (Vegas Baby!) be sure to check out her blog and her youtube page.

Qtip wrinkles up her nose and says, "This smells!" lol.

Free Street Art Scavenger Hunt- Bankrupt Slut with Banksy

These scavenger hunts have been a lot of fun, and today Bankrupt Slut dropped off 2 pieces of free street art, one at each of the remaining two Banksy pieces in LA.

These are well hidden. It was purposefully done by Bankrupt Slut so that only the followers of MELROSEandFAIRFAX would find them.

One of these is a rare 'pink' chase figures and it comes with a special prize pack. Click the jump for more info and location details

Out of the 7 dunny's that will be going up as free art around town, only two of those are pink. And Bankrupt Slut put a special prize, a sticker pack, for whoever finds the pink dunny.

The pink dunny is located by Banksy's English Bulldog piece, and another green dunny can be found by by the Crayon Soldier.

Follow the details in the pics to find exactly where!

***UPDATE: We have heard that both pieces have been found, but we have not yet heard from the ones that found them. If you found them send us pics! We love to see what the dunny with the things that you like! Congrats to those who scored~***

***Congratulations TwistidKid!! Nice score~ If you want to send us pics we will be happy to post em. Just checked out your blog. Cool stuff. You should take a pic of the dunny on or in one of those off road crazy things! Congrats again, and stay up!***

(when Bankrupt Slut told us that these were going up by the Banksy's, we knew we had to bring Qtip to get some pics with Banksy. More pics on that to come later, but for now here she is by the pink dunny Bankrupt Slut prize pack.)

^Right across the street from Banksy's pissing English Bulldog is this broken down truck missing a hood. The dunny is in there.

^Qtip in Beverly Hills!

The dunny is on the near side, above where the passenger side tire would be. It is grimey and dirty! We got filthy just taking pics! Be careful, and congratulations to whoever gets this one! Send us pics!!

The green dunny by Banksy's Crayon Soldier is around the corner from Banksy, and down the alley way. It is tucked in the corner behind the orange cone and barricade (you can see a little poke of green popping up!)

Whoever finds these, we would love if you sent us pics! Happy Hunting!

BEST of BANKSY on MELROSEandFAIRFAX

MELROSEandFAIRFAX has been at the forefront of all the Banksy action in LA. In fact, we think we were the first internet source to post all four pieces and have had the exclusive jump on the action that has happened since.

It all started with a tip we received on the blog we hunted down Banksy's Crayon Soldier. We didn't know anything about Lauren Conrad's tweet at the time, like most internet sources, and even though she technically had the inside scoop, we were the first to launch the initial pics of Banksy's Crayon Soldier.

Before the thrill of the first Banksy had even worn off, we were tipped off on another Banksy- the Charlie Brown on Sunset, and we rushed over to take the first pics, and put QtipTheCat in the pics for good measure.

On the way home from Charlie, we snapped pics of what we thought at the time was just another impressive graffiti billboard takeover and posted them that same night. We were the first ones in the world to post these images, but had no idea that 'Livin the Dream' was Banksy at the time. The next day Banksy posted the images on his website and word got out that the billboard was a Banksy.

We had hardly got done posting that the billboard was indeed a Banksy when a viewer submitted pics of the pissing Bulldog. We blasted the pics out there not sure at the time whether it was a Banksy or not. It was, and we locked down the position of being the first internet source to cover each of Banksy's four new pieces in Los Angeles.

It has been a wild ride that did not stop with the discovery but led on to Charlie being boarded up, and then uncovered and drilled, and finally removed and put on ebay.

As if that weren't drama enough, Livin the Dream got taken down and respectable folks almost came to fists fighting over it.

And aside from all the pieces themselves, there have been all kinds of great community stories including rumors about other pieces by Banksy, Banksy getting spot-jacked, stories of dedication from the legions of Banksy fans, street art dedicated to Banksy's street art, not to mention good dialogue on the topic of street art.

But perhaps the coolest thing has been the way the community has flocked to MELROSEandFAIRFAX for the latest breaking news on Banksy, and not only find out about what's happening, but contribute to the making the story itself and submitting, what we believe to be exclusive shots of Banksy's Crayon Soldier before it was buffed.

It has been a wild ride, and we have only managed 10 hours of sleep the last 3 nights combined. It has been well worth it, and we have loved every moment of this chase. Huge thanks to all the viewers, followers, and contributors who have made all this magic happen!

And our personal guess is that there might be a new crop of Banksy street art in Los Angeles after the Oscars are awarded. Win or lose, we expect to see something. (But c'mon, no doubt Banksy is going to win! When is the last time people were talking about the award so much?)

Keep checking back to MELROSEandFAIRFAX for the latest, greatest breaking news on Banksy in LA.

Banksy is a British Bulldog

We just received another exclusive shot of Banksy's English Bulldog and the full size of the piss up the wall.

This shot was submitted by Dog Byte, who is LA's own stencil guru.

4th Piece by Banksy? -Banksy is Top Dog

Finding the Banksy's in LA has become like a treasure hunt!

We have been impressed and astounded by the strong community being exhibited during the chase, and thanks to alert MELROSEandFAIRFAX reader Jessica Alidio, it seems the 4th Banksy might have been found!

Click the jump below for more details and location!

Like all of Banksy's work, this is not signed, so we are not certain that it is from him. But we are familiar with most of the street art that goes up in LA, and do not recognize the style as a piece from anyone local. In our expert opinion, this is Banksy.

Based on the size of the piss alone we think this is Banksy. Banksy is the biggest dog with the biggest bark on the block, and apparently when the biggest dog takes a piss, he really marks a big territory. And Banksy has really left his mark on LA!

***It is located on Little Santa Monica Blvd in Beverly Hills. Building next to the Beverly Hills Sports Community Center. Thanks again to Jessica Alidio for the heads up!***

Darkcloud is Bootylicious -This One's for Smear!

In light of Smear's recent interview on TheDirtFloor , we were inspired to pay homage to some BBW.

When it comes to big girls, there's just more of them to love, and the bigger the cushion, the better the pushin!

Here is some bootylicious-ness right here behind this Darkcloud sticker at Venice Beach.

PS-Smear was pretty damn honest and candid in the interview, but if you want some more 'dirt' about how wild and crazy this dude really is, click the link below . . . and let me put a big 'WARNING!' in front of it . . .

True story.

At an art show awhile back, Smear got wasted. After spending a good part of the night trying to hit on Shark Toof's girlfriend, Smear met a girl, and by the end of the night, he pissed in a cup of beer in front of the girl, and got her to drink it.

True story. This dude is nuckin futs!!
