Muzzled Chihuahua - Street Art Behind Plexiglass

With all the new attempts being made to preserve street art, most notably Banksy's Crayon House Foreclosure and Mr. Brainwash's new Oscar themed pieces, a lot of questions have been asked about the effect that plexiglass will have on the street art, such as will it cause mildew underneath?

This is the longest running piece of protected street art that we have seen, and it helps answer some questions.

This is a really cool stencil of a Chihuahua with a blonde girl in a handbag (this might be a Paris Hilton reference, not sure). It is massive, almost 6 feet tall, and has been riding on Sunset, covered with plexiglass the whole time, for at least 2 years.

What is the effect? The art underneath does not seem to be at all changed or altered by the plexiglass. And there doesn't seem to be any mildew growth on the piece, either. (that might be a problem in a more humid environment, but not in LA). The biggest impact that the plexiglass has on the viewing experience seems to be the glare, as demonstrated in the pictures.

Even though we love seeing this piece protected, it has a different feel than other street art that is not behind plastic. Its kind of like a dog being neutered. The essence is still fully there, but its not quite as wild as it would be untouched. That said, we have always been big supporters or getting dogs fixed, so maybe this is a good thing?

We are not sure who the artist is or who protected the piece, but all in all we dig it, and are glad it is there for people to see.

4th Piece by Banksy? -Banksy is Top Dog

Finding the Banksy's in LA has become like a treasure hunt!

We have been impressed and astounded by the strong community being exhibited during the chase, and thanks to alert MELROSEandFAIRFAX reader Jessica Alidio, it seems the 4th Banksy might have been found!

Like all of Banksy's work, this is not signed, so we are not certain that it is from him. But we are familiar with most of the street art that goes up in LA, and do not recognize the style as a piece from anyone local. In our expert opinion, this is Banksy.

Based on the size of the piss alone we think this is Banksy. Banksy is the biggest dog with the biggest bark on the block, and apparently when the biggest dog takes a piss, he really marks a big territory. And Banksy has really left his mark on LA!

Alec Monopoly Makes Me Sick!! (Blindfolded and Puking)

^Lol, we love Alec Monopoly's street art.

There is some interesting 'street' interaction going on here. This added blindfold puts a different spin on the monopoly man. . .
It looks like Alec's Monopoly Man has had blindfold added, and the mouth and tie taped over. See no evil, speak no evil . . . wear no evil?

As for the puke, well, this box is situated in front of a diner where a resident dog hangs out all day in front. Its definitely no badge of honor, but from spending time in the alley ways of Miami, we learned to differentiate the difference in the smell of dog shit and human shit, as well the different types of puke-- and in our expert opinion, this looks to definitely be dog puke~

Qtip Breaks Free! (Cat in the Rain!!--with a Hippo!?)

^We got an email from a reader telling us to check out the De La Barracuda parking lot, because Herbert the Hippo had left a little message for Qtip.

We waited for a lull in the rain, and then headed out to check it out. Qtip is snug as a bug in a rug tucked inside the jacket to begin with.

^It had started to rain, but we pulled Qtip out of the jacket for a quick pic-

She squirmed out of our hands, and out of the harness. Holy shit!! Cat on the loose!


^Qtip hit the ground running!


^Then she hit the alley, and tried to decide which way to go. . . .


. . . then straight bolted!


^But this cat has been raised well, so instead of running into the street, she hit the sidewalk and headed up the block.


At this point, it looked like Qtip was pretty safe (and wet! lol), so we let her keep strolling off leash. She walked for 3 blocks off leash. We shot a quick 30 second video of Qtip walking off leash in the rain. Check it out~
