I'm In LA, Of Course I'm Happy~

New 'Thank You Andy Warhol' stencil from X. Great placement on an empty sign.

And to the right is a new character stencil from Bad Bone featuring the droopy dog from old time cartoons, and next to the piece it says, "I'm in LA. Of course I'm happy."

So true~

On Fairfax.

Andy Warhol: Blue

Street artist 'X' puts up a 'Thank You' Andy Warhol poster with a blue background.

This one looks like it has been riding here for awhile.

Dig the blue and the blue sky.

Thank You Banksy (paste here!)

Another note from AJL saying 'Paste Here'. Not sure if its another not directed to Banksy (he paints more than pastes?) or just a little quip for the street artists of LA.

Next to a 'Thank You' Andy Warhol from X.

New Video and Website for 'X'

Rumors have been swirling that it was 'X' who showed Banksy's crew around town, and up top of the 'Livin the Dream' billboard. We still can't verify that, but what we do know for sure is that 1.) X does hang out with Demi Moore, Susan Surandon, Blake Lively, Cobra Starship and a grip more celebrities, 2.) he has hit seemingly every other rooftop and billboard in LA, and 3.) he just launched his website, 'Thank You, 'X'', which comes with the release of dope new video as well.

We enjoy most street art videos but we have a special appreciation for the ones that are well done, and this Adolfo J Lara is one of the best we have seen. It is more like a 3 minute film than a video, masterfully edited and cut, and in that short amount of time it captures the action and thrill of the streets, as well as the essence of 'X' as a person as he talks about cops, art and his 'thank you' to Andy Warhol.

It has been a thrill to watch X's street career skyrocket as high as the rooftops he climbs. Click the links to find out more about X, and join us in following his career as it shoots even higher~

X - Judgement Day

Rumors have been swirling about whether LA's own Rooftop King 'X' showed Banksy around town and up top the billboard on Sunset.

We are not sure, but X did get up some new action of his own last night with this 'Judgement Day' billboard takeover, featuring his 'Thank You, Andy Warhol' image. Click the jump below for more

Wonder if the billboard company will take it down and sell it on ebay, too . . . (I want it!)

Hooked Up - Thank You 'X'

X has been getting his art out to some really cool places lately, on the streets and into the homes of celebrities.

And some people are going to hate, but that just means you're doing something right . . .

Some folks have said that they don't like using 'famous people' imagery in street art, and for the most part we agree. But they have used that to try and demean what X has done, and to that we totally disagree. We think that X's selection of Andy Warhol, and his use of it as a 'Thank You' to other artists is absolutely brilliant. It is not some random celebrity, but one specially aimed for the artistically slanted-the ones that actually look for and see street art.

And X's true depth as an artist can be seen in the quality of the pieces themeselves. (in the second pic Qtip is getting a closer look at the background of the Andy poster that is highly detailed and has street art and tags hidden in there).

Furthermore, X is not a one-trick-pony and from his gallery work to other pieces on the streets, X has many different facets, yet the Andy one is the only one people keep talking about. We think that just goes to show how impactful and relevant the Andy piece truly is.

We are thrilled to add this piece, and the stickers, from X into our collection.

Thanks X!

Dig this spot, right up the road from The Beverly Center.

Notice how half the face is orange, and the other half is blue.

Beverly Hills says 'Thank You'~

Rooftop spots are always hard to get a pic of, but this place was especially tricky.

Alec is stacking up the Monopoly Man stencils up there.

X Saves the Day

^'X' hanging out with Demi Moore at Sundance.

X launched onto the national street art scene and rose to the top of the game in no time, both literally and figuratively. From rooftops to freeway overpasses to top tier Hollywood parties, X has been straight rocking it. And he is about to take part in his first art show this weekend . . .

X's first art show opens tomorrow night as he takes part in the 'Save the Day - Jesus is Coming' art show at the R&R Gallery in downtown Los Angeles.

Even though it is a Jesus themed art show, and we are not big fans of the dude or his fan clubs, anything by X is worth checking out. Truly, X saves the day.

From what we hear, it is not a heavily religious show, but just art loosely related to Jesus. If you want to be like Demi Moore and add a piece of X's art to your collection, or just meet the artist, make sure to stop by the opening tomorrow night between 7pm-Midnight (those are the hours of the show opening-we are not sure exactly when X will be there).

The R&R gallery is located at 929 East 2nd Street, Suite 106 (90012).

Thank You, but, No Thank You

A massive Thank You Andy Warhol piece of street art from 'X' got mostly buffed atop this tremendous construction site. You can still see the top of Andy's head and 'Thank'.

Apparently the building owners wanted the spot for their own advertising. 'Who is on Piers Morgan tonight?" Shoot, we didn't even know that Piers was on! (or who the hell Piers even is!)

Gooface

In 'Exit Through the Gift Shop' Banksy says, "Before Thierry (Mr. Brainwash), I used to tell everyone that they should do art . . . I really don't do that anymore . . . "

We are feeling kind of like Banksy at this point.

There is a lot of new stuff going up on the streets, and not all of it is quality--like these new pastes from 'Gooface', for instance.

The images on these pastes are so pixilated, that it really isn't an image, more of a blurry mess. Furthermore, this doesn't seem to be part of the artistic expression, but what happens when you try to print a file with low resolution. The quality looks like a little kid-but the imagery is of a middle aged dude. If it is a kid, it might be forgiven. But if it is this dude-well, if you are 30 years old and putting this junk on the streets, it is just embarrassing and needs to stop.

Finally, we are sick of the way all these small-dicked newcomers think that capping another piece of art somehow makes theirs any better. As the pick shows, most of this particular box was empty. To cover a big-name street artist and quality product like this Andy Warhol does not give you bonus points, it only takes points away. All the young bucks need to realize that when you go over other art, you are shortening the life span of your piece, considerably.

The best thing about 'Gooface' is the name, but even that depends on how its pronounced. 'Goof-face'= brilliant. Goo-face=gross old middle aged artistically retarded dude.

Eh . . .

Thank You Andy Warhol

A great spot for these Thank You Andy Warhol posters from street artist 'X'.

If there is an empty sign in Hollywood, its got X on it~

The Hottest at a Hot Spot

More new work popped up at this hot spot of an abandoned building on Sunset . . .

ASVP and Bankrupt Slut get up right on the very front of the building.

It is a ballsy spot, right out on the street in a high traffic area. (2 cops drove past while we were snapping pics).

Hopefully, the effort will be rewarded and the art will ride at eye level for long time.

Joining Alec, X, Obey, Thank You, and ? nun.

^Love this shot

^Love the colors in the hand painted piece from Bankrupt Slut.

And, its hard to tell in the pic, but the pink hearts on the ASVP piece have a shiny, glossy finish, so they really pop off the paper.

Dig it~

A Great XXXX-ing Story!

X staring at some rootop street art. He told us a great story that led to this piece . . .

While out on the streets during the middle of the night, X and his crew saw some other cats driving around. They were fingered as Septerhed and Mar. So, to get their attention, X waves his poster like a beacon to other street artists. Septerhed and Mar saw it. They all got together, and put up some art together, including this rooftop piece.

Hooked Up- Thank You, X

'X' hooked up MELROSEandFAIRFAX with a trio of hand finished Andy Warhol prints.

We love them~

And like the way Mr. Brainwash puts a thumb print on every piece of art, the form cut head has its own stamp of authenticity from X-it has his footprint on it. Followers of the blog know that we are somewhat of sneakerheads, and we love this mark.

Hanging Out With 'X'

Rooftop action on the far side of the street with Thank You Andy Warhol- being viewed by X, the artist himself.

We spent an awesome afternoon yesterday hanging out with burgeoning street artist 'X'. . .

X has quickly launched his art to the top of the LA scene, both literally and figuratively. He has more pieces riding on rooftops as many artists do on the boxes down below. These big ups, and the fact that his inaugural piece features an icon that art lovers immediately identify with, have thrust X onto the face of LA in a big way.

Hanging out with X was a real pleasure. Even though he has not been doing street art for a long time, he already has many amazing stories. We sat enthralled listening to stories of the biggest names in street art and tales of hair-raising experiences on the streets.

X has a passion for street art, a desire to learn. With street prowess and the right connections, it sounds like he has all the right pieces in place. X is already up in New York and Atlanta in addition to Los Angeles. And even if X has got as 'high' as it gets in LA, this career is just going to just keep getting bigger.

Country Strong - 'X' Thank You

Yet another epic slice of street art from X.

This time, he employs a billboard takeover of a Country Strong movie promotional spot, and adds a rooftop Andy for good measure.

Up top with Alec Monopoly, Leba, T.wat, Country Strong, Andy Warhol, Thank You, street art

Impressive, all the way around~
