There has been a lot of talk in the street art community recently about who is ripping off who? Sometimes it is clear what is being ripped, and sometimes it is a lot more vague.

Here are some painted postal slaps from AJL accusing Curly of ripping him off. But what is puzzling about the reference, is that the quote refers to a Banksy piece ('I'm out of bed and dressed-what more do you want?'), and Curly did have a sticker that said 'I'm out of bed and ripping off a famous Banksy - what more do you want?, so we are not sure what this has to do with AJL?

Maybe there is more to it than that, but since these 2 stickers are the only things we've seen on the streets from AJL in over a month, and since Curly is a New York based artist who came through town a few weeks ago, we don't even know what Curly could have seen of AJL's to be referenced?

AJL gets up at this hard to hit spot.

The barbed wire and 15 foot climb didn't stop AJL from getting up at this spot on Fairfax.

Its a difficult spot to hit, and impressive it was done in a way that fits and enhances the spot.

The Cobra Snake Does Community Service

"I Want to Make You Feel Beautfiful~"

In our book, Mark the Cobra Snake has been a legend in the street game ever since we got into the game.

First off, the dude has the coolest fuckin' name ever. And for years we have enjoyed the 'wild style' he brings to an event and captures it on camera. We have long marveled at his amazing photographs at elite Hollywood parties, and it was a great thrill to see Mark and his crew in action (as shown pictured above- Mark snapping a shot of Jonny from his crew). These guys brought the party~

And as big of a thrill as it was seeing Mark, it was a life accomplishment getting photographed by Mark ourselves. We don't get flustered, but we look it in these pics. Seriously, how often does one get the chance to get their photograph taken by a hero!? Hell. Yeah. Cross that one off the bucket list!

Pics From Community Service (Part 2/3)

Not only did the Community Service Art Show have much of the imagery that we have seen on the streets, but there were also some new pieces, as well.

Mar, X and AJL all introduced new imagery in the art show.

Mar employed some new images of pretty women that we have not seen before (shown above and here), and X launched some new Daft Punk themed work (shown below). (fuck me for not getting good pics of AJL--we did snap some pics, but we are trying out some new settings on the camera, and unfortunately the pics came out blurry).

Meanwhile, Dog Byte and Alec Monopoly came strong with the street imagery we know and love.

Pics From Community Service (Part 1/3)

We had a blast tonight at the Community Service Art Show at Confederacy. The show was packed with hipsters, art lovers and movie stars. The turnout was no surprise since the show featured some of the top names in LA. Click the jump for more

The Community Service Art Show was a great time. The art work was incredible, and the energy in the crowd was palpable. The show featured art from Dog Byte, X, Alec Monopoly, Mar, and AJL.

Due to having to catch a ride to the show with a friend, we arrived right when the show started at 6. By the end of the night, most of the pieces in the show (and all of the pieces in this series), were sold.

There were a bunch of Hollywood movie stars, or rather TV stars, were there. We met store owner and DJ Danny Masterson, Bud Bundy (David) from Living With Children, Randy from My Name is Earl, and Christopher Masterson who played Francis in Malcolm in the Middle. It was especially cool meeting Christopher as we really enjoyed his character on the series. He was a super cool guy in person. Really, they all were. Its a very cool thing how street art is attracting the interest of celebrities.

The crowded house was especially impressive considering the awful weather today in Los Angeles. But there was a huge turnout, and we saw a bunch of old friends and met a lot of new ones.

Community Service Tomorrow

Community Service opens tomorrow at Confederacy.

It features some of LA's top street artists including Alec Monopoly, Dog Byte, X, Mar, and AJL.

Free drinks and cupcakes. The fun gets started at 6 pm. Confederacy is located at 4661 Hollywood Blvd.

Another note from AJL saying 'Paste Here'. Not sure if its another not directed to Banksy (he paints more than pastes?) or just a little quip for the street artists of LA.

Banksy, This Would Be a Good Spot

Like we say, the town is abuzz in Banksy fever. Hell, Banksy is even having street art dedicated to him already in LA.

AJL, arguably one of LA's wittiest street artist, invites Banksy to paint this spot on Melrose.

This wall has particular significance to the followers of MELROSEandFAIRFAX who might recognize it as the Jonny 'No' Style wall.

Banksy is Top Dog

Fresh Street Art at De La Barracuda

The main wall got buffed, but strangely enough, it seems the buffers selected the pieces they liked, and those they did not paint over.

Also, even though the buff is just a day old, new art has already sprung up . . .

The street art that survived the buff is the ASVP piece on the pole, Mar up top around back, the Macbeth graffiti cat by Dan Smith, and a Hugh Lee Man piece in back.

New stuff sprouted up already from Alec, AJL, and Bran One TRB. It looks like Alec's Monopoly Man face has been filled in and AJL's girl has had some white modifications.
