The Best of Banksy in LA

After the tragedy that happened to Banksy's Caution piece, it is nice to step back and take a moment to appreciate the art.

Here is a really cool photoshop compilation of Banksy's work while in Los Angeles.

Stay up, Banksy~

Very cool idea and very well done by Steve Korkis. Thanks Steve!

Dead Arm Ball

Fresh off being crowned crew of the year,The Status Faction keeps mobbin heat.

Here are some more pieces of hand made street art. These are life size wheat pastes featuring ball players playing ball with their arms and legs.

Riding on this art wall with a peeled Charlie Chaplin from SmogCity to the left, semi-buffed Koffinz at the same spot.

Stay fresh~

The closest contest was for Graffiti, where the top 3 were separated by only a couple of votes. KH no. 7 received powerful email support leading to a decisive win.

We also received write in email votes for Nomade, Jose, Plavex, Grime Crew, Hael, Atlas, Mar, Dethkills. And our favorite write-in submission, which came from AJL for Phone-Jack (bwahahaha-dude's put in work!)

***Also: we owe a huge apology to Inept. He earned a place on the Street Artist of the Year selection, but we made small typo which led to a HUGE omission. Major apologies to Inept and his fans for mistakenly leaving his name off the voting list***

This was an awesome year for street art in Los Angeles. Every artist mentioned deserves commendation. There are many incredible artists who, for whatever reason, just didn't make the list. Big thanks to everyone who's put up art in 2010, and we look forward to an amazing '11.

Happy New Year~

Stay Up~

Things Getting Heated for 'BEST OF' Contest?

As an alert viewer already pointed out, the 'Be Unique' art posted in the post before went right over a dope hand stenciled piece from Dog Byte.

This pick shows the back of the box, where pieces by Dog Byte and KH no. 7 have apparently been ripped to the ground. It does seem that these pieces were selectively ruined, as the pick shows pieces from Zoltron still running, along with a new one from MCHN-The Machine.

We are not sure what to think of this? or whether or not it has something to do with MELROSEandFAIRFAX's 'Best of' 2010 contest?

Anyone who follows the blog should know that we hate to see good art ruined and unnecessary beef on the streets. Remember kids, friends don't let friends fuck up cool street art~

BEST OF LA - 2010

MELROSEandFAIRFAX is proud to present its -BEST OF 2010-

The 'BEST OF' is broken down into four categories:
-Street Artist of the Year
-Sticker Artist of the Year
-Graffiti Artist of the Year
-Top Crew of 2010

2010 was an amazing year for street art in Los Angeles.

MELROSEandFAIRFAX started out as a blog that mainly focused on the area its named after, but as we've grown, so has the coverage, and we now have covered street art in LA from Downtown to Newport Beach to the far ends of the Valley.

Clearly, we could not cover every piece of area in this enormous city. There are many great artists out there making a name in Los Angeles who aren't on this list and we have mad respect for anyone and everyone getting up. We would love to include everyone who has done street art this year on the list, however, we selected these nominations based on the amount of coverage these artists have got on this blog this year.

We would also like to take a minute and toot our own horn. This year has seen our humble beginnings and HUGE success. Based on the amount of web traffic and hits each day, MELROSEandFAIRFAX is now the #1 SITE FOR STREET ART STICKERS IN THE WORLD and the #5 STREET ART WEBSITE WORLDWIDE.

To give that some sort of larger reference of this sites web traffic, we get more hits than 99.5% of ALL websites IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!!

This rise of this blog this year has been astounding, and we really can only thank all the amazing, incredible artists who share their work on the streets of Los Angeles. THANK YOU!!! ~

And what we can give back is the promise is massive coverage and to keep blasting this art from the streets of Los Angeles to the rest of the world~

****For those who are curious about what happened to the earlier contest and why we revamped, read on: We had to take the contest down because the voting had become stacked. Some enthusiastic supporters had discovered that the 1-vote-per-person could be gotten around by clearing a computer's cookies and history. So even though most people honored the system, a handful of IP addressees voted dozens of times.

We don't fault the enthusiasm of the voters, but the results weren't accurate. After deliberating on how to handle the situation, we decided to take the contest down and relaunch the contest in a way that would allow people to voice their support as much as they like, and still get accurate feedback on what viewers support on this blog and want to see.

So the new contest is 2-pronged. 50% of the results will come from public voting-and 50% will come from email votes.

For the public voting, we encourage people to vote as many times as they can. Public support counts for a lot, and we want to hear what people are enthusiastic about, so vote, vote, vote!!! --(the only issue is that we due to the constraints of the system this blog works on, you will still have to CLEAR COOKIES AND REFRESH YOUR BROWSER EACH TIME to vote multiple times)

And for the email voting we encourage people to just vote!! We know it takes more effort to send an email, but if you want to show support for your favorite artists, it is very simple and only takes a minute.

Winners will receive a can of Montana Hardcore Spraypaint, Sticker Pack, and Bragging Rights~

Thanks to all the readers for voting! And good luck to all the artists!
