Obey at MOCA

Shepard Fairey's exhibit at MOCA is super clean. No oversized murals, just framed pieces.

It felt very refined, and these pieces, perhaps more than any others, felt at home in this environment.

What Up, Shep!

Shepard Fairey gets up in downtown Los Angeles.

It looks like he is putting a big piece up for the MOCA exhibit opening this weekend.

On Alameda and 3rd.

Rock N' Roll

Shepard Fairey has a show opening this week based on the album covers that inspired him, and it seems like this is a nod in that direction. Click the jump for more

Dig this piece, and thanks to Casey for the unpixilated pic and the tip.

Not sure why these pics are coming out so pixilated? Just resizing the pics like always, but they started coming out really blurry. We have restarted the computer, but it is still doing it. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the pixilation? or what's causing it?

Mr. Brainwash Gets Sued

Mr. Brainwash is being sued by Glen E. Friedman for using a picture of Run DMC without permission.

There is a clear difference between this case, and the Shepard Fairey/Associated Press Obama battle, and the Mr. Brainwash lawsuit should have a clear impact of the on street art everywhere.

^Friedman's original photo

There is a great article on Portfoli which lays out the big difference between the Brainwash/Friedman case and the Fairey/AP case. While Shepard has argued it was his treatment of the AP stock photo made it iconic, Friedman's RunDMC photo was already iconic before Mr. Brainwash used it, and that is a big difference.

Both used photos that were not theirs, but one created the fame while the other tried to capitalize on the pre-existing steez.

The way this lawsuit plays out could have a tremendous impact on Mr. Brainwash and street artists. Since a good portion of his work is based on similar 'borrowed' iconic imagery, if Friedman wins Mr. Brainwash could be sued for every piece he's done something similar with.

And in general, since many street artists employ iconic imagery and pictures of celebrities in their works, this principal could be applied to anyone.

Big Obey Street Art in Los Angeles

We caught some construction workers doing some work right next to a big piece of Obey street art right on Sunset.

We love these shots. They really capture the size and sheer ballsiness it takes to hit a spot like this.

Thank God Crazies and Assholes

We are not huge fans of the 2nd Amendment, and generally feel that the bigger a person's gun, the smaller the person's dick. (keep making up for it!)

Whoever put these little pasters up went out of their way to go over the only piece of art on each box, and so most of these have been torn down.

Is it street marketing for Shepard Fairey's upcoming 2nd Amendment print? or just some asshole who likes crazies?

Crazy Mold

After a week of rain, this crazy black mold has started growing out of the cracks of a lot of electric boxes.

Like this one with peeling art from Alec Monopoly, Bankrupt Slut, Kai in front of the Obey/Saber mural at De La Barracuda.

Crazy.

Rain is Here For the Flowers to Grow

Its not that it has rained in Los Angeles for 4 days straight. Its that it hasn't ever stopped raining during that time-even for a minute.

Blah.

Well, the rain leads to fresh canvases and new beginnings. Like these fresh Obey posters that remind us that it takes the rain for the flowers to grow.

Brooklyn Projects Now Open on Melrose

The new Brooklyn Projects store has just opened up on Melrose with a dope Obey installation in the front window.
