Overheard At Runyon

Runyon Canyon used be owned by several individuals before the city of Hollywood obtained it. The remains of the mansion built by the canyon's last private owner are scattered throughout the canyon and are visible in many areas. We have hiked Runyon many times wondering what all the old structures were for.

We love how the Runyon stories are art focused but at the same time give history to the area.

Thanks Overheard!

Outpost Street Art - Making Art Out of What Once Was

The Hollywood sign wasn't always the biggest thing in the hills. In the 1920's this Outpost sign was once a giant neon red beacon dominating the skyline.

But the sign was abandoned 80 years ago, and the battered remains were left sitting on a ridge alongside Runyon Canyon--until now.

Someone has come along, and turned this eyesore into some beautifully improvised street art.

The skeleton of the Outpost sign has been twisted, and shaped into these beautiful iron flowers.

It has essentially changed industrial garbage into an interesting sculpture.

Not only is it more aesthetically pleasing, but it gets people to view things in a different way, much like what Banksy did with the abandoned water tanker on his 'This Looks A Bit Like An Elephant' piece.

Making Movies at Runyon Canyon

Before the rain, we headed up Runyon Canyon earlier this week and saw some movies being filmed and movie stars~

Came up on this set while they were filming the two dudes sitting on the bench. (it probably killed the shot that we stopped and started taking photos! oops).

Later we saw Dane Cook at Runyon. He was not part of the film, but just out hiking the Canyon on his own. The dude is pretty ripped!

Another slice of LA~
