In the week since Jonny buffed the wall on Melrose, it has been vandalized at least 3 times and is currently covered in silver spray paint . . .
Each time Jonny has come back to repair the painting, and then it gets smashed again. Well, to be honest, Jonny has shown more resolve than we expected.
And, we even saw what seems to be Jonny's first legitimate piece of street art - the rooftop piece pictured above, riding with Space Invader further down Melrose. We can give credit where credit is due, and can seriously give props to Jonny for hitting the spot.
Its a great spot, but to continue with the honesty, the piece is whack. Like we told you to your face, Jonny, you are a talented painter. You are very good at painting in the lines, better than most, no doubt. But, like we also told you, as an artist, you have no style.
Yours is the kind whose talents would be best suited serving on a production team for a big artist like Damien Hirst. You would do a solid and competent job cranking out the pieces as directed, but left alone, yours is without the higher qualities, the true style that separates a painter from an artist.
Every single piece we have seen from you is bland. It is as boring as boring gets. And since you have been set on sharing these banal paintings with Melrose, Melrose would like to give you a gift in return, we would like to give you a name.
Last week, if someone were to do a google search for Jonny Style, like we did, nothing would come up. But now, if and when people search your name, this article will pop up. People will read it, and know you forever more as Jonny 'No' Style.
It seems that all 5 foot 7 of Jonny is wrapped up with a Napoleon complex. We know that you are not yet done. You can hit all the spots you want. On the street, or on a legal walls. Write books. Do cartoons. And every time someone stares too long at your art, every time someone looks at you a little slanted, every time you think you someone smiles at your name- you will wonder if they are thinking that it has no style. They are, and you are a painter not an artist, Jonny No Style.
