Free Humanity Breaks Down CheObama- UPDATE!

Free explained the idea behind CheObama to M&F

We had always assumed that Free Humanity's CheObama piece was about capturing the revolutionary flair that was in the air towards the end of the Bush Presidency. The people wanted change, and this piece seemed to represent that.

But Free told us that was not so much the intended message, as it was a commentary on the played out status of Che's being revolutionary. According to Free, Che's revolution was not necessarily a good thing and killed a lot of people and so has Obama, and that's what he was trying to show.

Obama swept into the presidency under the banner of peace. He pledged to close Guantanamo and end the wars, but instead we have become more entrenched.

And another image associated with Che's revolution is a clenched fist. And Free took that fist and placed a missile in the hand (pictured on the top of CheObama's cap) as if to say that the cost of revolution also brings death.

Up with Free's Jabba the Hut piece saying 'Greed is Good'.

Free had really impressive versions of both of these pieces at his show last week, covered with a resin glaze.

Keep bringin the revolution!

$100 Dollar

Free Humanity had put up a stenciled CheObama with a stenciled dollar bill over it, also with the CheObama image, and tagged next to it asking 'How much is your dollar worth?'.

Perhaps its a sign of these economic times, but the dollar bill got taken (even before Banksy came to town).

Then, 2wenty came by and replaced the dollar bill with a movie prop version of the $100 bill. Its not worth anything. But since street art is becoming more and more valuable, maybe this will be worth more than a hundred bucks sometime in the near future.

Free Humanity - How Much is Your Dollar Worth?

We are not sure. Try spending a painted one and see if its worth anything.

We kid, we kid.

Clearly this piece from Free has some sort of commentary on money, but we are not sure what that commentary is?

And we feel that it also must be said that we loved the CheObama image when it came out. It captured the 'hope' of the campaign with the revolutionary spirit many of us banked on Obama to bring to office. But as his time in office has been far less than revolutionary, in our opinion, these CheObama images have lost its significance.
