Can anyone say conflict of interest?

^Above is Jeffrey Deitch having a quiet moment to himself in front of the 'Street Market' installation done by Barry McGee (Twist), Steve Powers (Espo), and Todd James (Reas). The same exhibit was done before years ago in Deitch's former gallery, Deitch Projects. As the exhibit so aptly points out, 'No Dude. Its Not Allright.'

MOCA is a spectacular exhibition. Still, lots of questions have been posed about the roster of artists that were chosen for MOCA's 'Art In The Streets'. Questions both how it was done, and who was left out of the show.

Well, this is a teaser, but tomorrow MELROSEandFAIRFAX will have an exclusive article that raises some serious concerns about major conflict of interest issues concerning Jeffrey Deitch and his role as Director of MOCA, and Deitch's relationships with artists and colleagues from his former gallery career.

Os Gemeos- Flat Top Train Car

Os Gemeos put together this installation at MOCA with a custom made mini-train car graffitied up and placed in a faux caged yard.

Love the characters on the piece underneath.

According to Deitch, this was a last minute project. But it was also kind of funny, because the way that Deitch described it, because it was outside, he seemed to think that it was true 'street art' and validified the 'Art In The Streets' title.

Even though this piece was done in San Francisco, it is clear shot at LA's own MOCA exhibition. And Eddie says the piece is a direct response to this Huffington Post article that we contributed to, along with Deitch talking about the museum buffing tags in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Very powerful piece, and the streets bite back~

New Work at the Art Wall

Anti-Censorship Protest @ MOCA

Last night, a group of street art activists and veterans gathered in the parking lot of MOCA for an anti-censorship protest of curator Jeffery Deitch's recent whitewashing Blu's politically charged mural.

The protest featured laser graffiti projected onto MOCA's wall. The climax came when an image of Blu's work was projected on the screen with a big red 'Censored' on top of it.
