Jonny Style caught red handed buffing this beautiful wall on Melrose . . .
While driving home from the dentist this morning, we spotted some fresh new work from Mute and KilleD popped up overnight on the earlier posted 'One Sick Kid' wall. The new stuff looked awesome--but we didn't have our camera on us at the time, so we couldn't get any pics.
By the time we made it back with a camera, nearly all the art had been buffed--including the 2 brand new pieces which we hadn't even flicked yet, and we caught Jonny Style picking at the wall.
We were pretty pissed to see this going down. The wall was taking shape beautifully. We exchanged some pretty heated words with Jonny Style. He plans to put up a painting and claims that he is 'saving' the wall from posters.
Well, its amazing how quickly the tables turn. And while one piece from Jonny on Melrose might be charming, any more is already too much. We thought your scooter was quaint-now we know it is just your bitch-mobile.
What bothers us most about this buffing is his assumption that his painting is somehow 'better' than the fresh artwork that consistently turns up on this wall. We love the constant communication of the streets. We love new pieces, and especially big, collaborative walls like this one. No matter how interesting a painted mural might be, it is ultimately stale.
This all reminds us of when Kai re-appropriated a family wall earlier this year from an active artist spot, to a mediocre permanent mural. The difference here is that Jonny does not have the family ownership of the building to back him up.
As we told Jonny when we caught him buffing, the disrespect he has shown the artists of Los Angeles will undoubtedly be returned, and his piece won't last long.
We can say that we are no longer fans, and he can take his Faffi-rip off's back across the ocean to the land that might give a fuck. Melrose has plenty of style of its own, Jonny, and its way fucking cooler than what you bring to the table.
Get the fuck back to France, and good riddance~

^Getting heated always attracts the crazies. This dude heard us raising voices and appeared out of nowhere.
